Description
The Benchtop Mortising Jig Kit from the Woodsmith Store makes cutting mortises fast and easy. When combined with a plunge router and solid carbide straight bits, you can cut precise mortises in no time. This exclusive design is perfect for loose tenon joinery, one of the most straightforward and robust types of joinery you can produce in a home workshop. The advantage of loose tenon joinery is that it's fast, strong, and repeatable. The jig can cut mortises from 1/8" to 1/2" wide and 3-1/2" long.
Adjustable Fence
The fence works in multiple positions. The horizontal position cuts the mortise on the edge of a workpiece, while the vertical position cuts the mortises on the end of a workpiece. Both positions adjust for a variety of different stock widths.
Router Platen
The jig integrates an adjustable platen on top, which contains the router and only allows movement from side to side. The platen adjusts front to back for stock thicknesses from 1/4" to 1-1/2". Adjustable stops set the mortise length from 1/2" long to 3-1/2" long.
Plunge Router + Straight Bits
The jig can produce precision results when combined with a good quality mid-sized plunge router. Solid carbide spiral upcut bits are the key to ejecting waste, while a dust hood keeps routing virtually dust-free.
All-in-One Hardware Kit Plus Plans
The hardware kit consists of all of the required hardware to build one jig. Each kit includes a 10-page set of plans with exploded views, parts views, a bill of materials, and a supply list. Step-by-step instructions are also included, which help guide you through the process of building the jig. Lumber is not included with the kit.
Instructional Videos
As a bonus, you also get access to 5 videos! Each video explains how to use the jig, layout the mortises, create tenons, and make a set of metal scales for the jig.
