Description
Soft Curly Maple shorts are approximately 13/16″-thick x 4-1/2″ to 7-1/2″ wide x 24″ long. They are available in one, two, and three board foot quantities.
Curly Maple has distinctive ripples in the grain pattern, creating a three-dimensional effect that appears as if the grain has “curled” along the length of the board. It’s also referred to as fiddleback maple when used for the backs and sides of violins. Curly maple is most pronounced when the board is quartersawn, and the curls usually become much less pronounced in flatsawn sections of boards. The wood is easy to cut and machines well.
