Description
Sapele shorts are approximately 13/16″-thick x 3-1/2″ to 7-1/2″ wide x 24″ long. They are available in one, two, and three board foot quantities, and come in multiple pieces.
The color ranges from a golden to dark reddish brown and tends to darken with age. The grain is a ribbon pattern that’s interlocked, which is seen on quartersawn boards. The grain and color can be similar to higher end African mahogany. Machining Sapele can be difficult, especially when planing, resulting in tear out. Sapele has a slight blunting effect on cutters, but it turns, glues, and finishes well.
