Description
Leopardwood shorts are approximately 13/16″-thick x 3-1/2″ to 7-1/2″ wide x 24″ long. They are available in one, two, and three board foot quantities, and come in multiple pieces.
Has a lots of flecking that gives this wood its namesake. The wood itself is a medium to dark reddish brown with grey or light brown rays. Like other woods that exhibit the strongest figure in quartersawn pieces, Leopardwood has the most pronounced figure and displays the largest flecks when perfectly quartersawn. This is due to the wood’s wide medullary rays, whose layout can be seen the clearest when looking at the end grain. It can be difficult to work because of its high density and tendency to tear out during planing. Leopardwood glues and finishes well.
