Description
Kiaat (Muninga) is grown in South-central Africa. The heartwood color can vary widely from a lighter golden brown to a darker reddish or purplish brown. The colors tend to become more subdued with age. Grain is straight to interlocked with a medium to coarse texture and low natural luster. It is generally easy to work with, though there can be tearout during planning and a moderate dulling effect on the cutters. Kiaat has a mild aromatic scent while being worked and it glues, stains and finishes well.
