Description
Goncalo Alves is grown in South America. The heartwood is typically a medium reddish brown with irregularly spaced streaks of dark brown to black. Some pieces of Goncalo Alves can be completely uniform in color with no streaks or stripes. And color tends to darken with age. It is generally not too difficult to work, despite its high density. Figured pieces with irregular grain can pose a challenge in planing and machining and can have a moderate effect on cutters. The wood is very resistant to moisture absorption. Cleaning with mineral spirits may be beneficial before glue-up.
If you need more pieces, try a 2-pack or 3-pack, which are offered at 10% and 15% discounted rates, respectively. For longer pieces, such as 3′ or more, please get in touch with the Woodsmith Store via email or phone for a custom quote.
