Description
Aromatic Cedar shorts are approximately 13/16″-thick x 5-1/2″ to 7-1/2″ wide x 24″ long. They are available in one, two, and three board foot quantities.
Heartwood tends to be reddish or violet-brown. Sapwood is pale yellow and can appear as streaks and stripes throughout the heartwood. Overall, Aromatic Red Cedar is easy to work, notwithstanding any knots or irregularities in the wood. It reportedly has a high silica content, which can dull cutters. Aromatic Red Cedar glues and finishes nicely, though the wood is left unfinished in many applications to preserve its aromatic properties.
