Description
Red Mallee hails from Australia, where it grows in a stunted habit with multiple narrow stems and, very often, multiple burls. For this reason, Red Mallee is almost always sold as burl. The heartwood can vary in color from pinkish orange to deep red, while the sapwood is a lighter straw color, sometimes tending toward gray. Note: Red Mallee Burl will have some cracks and voids that will need to be filled with CA glue before turning. Though it adds a bit of work, the result is worth it—a pen turning with real depth and character.
